How to run a paid FPL mini-league without chasing transfers
If you run a paid FPL league in a WhatsApp group, you know how it goes. You post your account number in August. Half the group pays on time. A few pay in October. Two people swear they sent it. By May you're paying out prizes from a pot that never quite added up, and someone still thinks you kept some of it.
You took the job because you love the game. Not to be everyone's banker.
What usually goes wrong
The money sits in your personal account. Even if you never touch it, nobody can see that. And if you're ever short, it's on you.
Nobody knows who has paid. Payment screenshots get lost in the chat, and you end up with a list in your notes app.
The table lives in your head. Gameweek winners, monthly prizes, side bets. Somebody always disputes it.
Payouts are slow. Sending ten transfers at the end of the season is a chore, so it gets pushed back, and the group gets restless.
A better setup
Here's what a well-run paid league looks like, whatever tool you use:
- Entries go into a pot you don't personally hold. Escrow, not your GTBank account.
- Everyone can see who has paid. No screenshots.
- The table comes from FPL itself. Scores update without anyone typing them in.
- Prize rules are written down before the first deadline. Who gets what, and when.
- Winners are paid automatically. Nobody has to ask.
How it works on SquadPot
SquadPot was built for exactly this.
- Paste your FPL league ID and every member, score and standing syncs from FPL all season.
- Entries are held in escrow. Players pay from their own SquadPot wallet. The money never
passes through your account.
- Prize splits are set up front and shown to every player before they join.
- Settlement is automatic. When FPL marks a gameweek finished, prizes land in the
winners' wallets and they can withdraw to any Nigerian bank.
- You can earn from it. League managers can take a manager fee of up to 15% of each pot,
once at least three members are paying. It's shown to players up front, so nobody feels tricked.
SquadPot takes a 10% platform fee from each pot. Every fee is on the pool page before anyone pays.
Moving your group over mid-season
You don't have to wait for next season. Most admins do it like this:
- Set up the league on SquadPot with the same prize rules you already use.
- Post the invite link in the group with one line: "From this gameweek, entries go here,
not to my account."
- Run the next gameweek or month on SquadPot and let people see the payouts land.
Once the first winners get paid without chasing anyone, the rest of the group usually follows.
Your players will thank you
A paid league should be about who reads the fixtures better, not about who is owed what. Take the money out of your hands and you get to enjoy running the league again.
