How to win money playing FPL in Nigeria

You already put hours into FPL every week. Most of that effort gets you bragging rights in a group chat and nothing else. Here's how Nigerian managers actually turn it into money, and what the ones who win consistently do differently.

1. Gameweek pools

A pool is a one-gameweek competition. Everyone pays the same entry, everyone plays their normal FPL team, and the top scorers split the pot.

Why it works for most managers:

  • It's one gameweek. A bad start to the season doesn't knock you out.
  • You don't need a new team. Your real FPL points are your score.
  • You can start free. SquadPot runs free pools most gameweeks with a prize we fund,

so you can see how it feels before you put anything in.

Paid entries are priced in SP, where 1 SP is ₦1,000. Here's exactly how the pot is split.

2. Head-to-head battles

A battle is you against one other manager for one gameweek. You both put the same stake in, and the higher FPL score takes 95% of the combined pot.

Battles are where rivalries go. If someone in your group has been talking all week about their triple captain, this is where you settle it.

3. Cash mini-leagues

Plenty of Nigerian FPL groups already play for money: everyone pays the admin at the start of the season, and the winner gets paid in May. If the admin is honest and organised.

On SquadPot a league admin can run the same thing with the entries held in escrow and the table pulled straight from FPL. Winners get paid automatically. If you're the admin, here's how to move your league over.

4. The jackpot

Hit the target score for the gameweek and you take the pot. If nobody hits it, it rolls over and grows. It doesn't happen often, which is the point.

What the winners do differently

Looking at who tops pools week after week, a few habits come up again and again.

They pick their contests. A 5-player pool and a 100-player pool reward different things. In a small pool you mostly need a solid score. In a big one you usually need a differential captain or a punt that comes off.

They don't chase losses. One bad gameweek is noise. Doubling your entry the next week to win it back is how people lose more than they planned to.

They plan transfers before the deadline, not at 11pm. Pools lock at the FPL deadline. Most points left on the table come from rushed late changes and forgotten injury news.

They use the free pools. A free pool with a real prize is free money for whoever wins it. Strong managers enter them every week.

They treat it as entertainment with a budget. Set an amount you're happy to spend for the month and stick to it. SquadPot is 18+ only, and our responsible gaming page covers limits and support.

Getting the money out

Winnings land in your SquadPot wallet once the gameweek is settled. From there you can withdraw to any Nigerian bank account. The minimum withdrawal is 5 SP (₦5,000), and payments go through Korapay, a CBN-licensed payment provider.

Where to start

Link your FPL team, join this week's free pool, and see where you finish. If you beat the field, you'll know whether to move up to paid pools.
